Ohrid is today a tourist town with its many beautiful beaches and mountains on the horizon. In Ohrid there is something for everyone, especially for those interested in history. There are cobblestones from the Roman Empire, amphitheaters from antiquity, as well as some of the oldest Byzantine frescoes. In Ohrid there are a lot of churches, it is usually said that there is one for each day about 365 pieces
Lake Ohrid is very old and one of Europe’s deepest lakes. In Lake Ohrid there is a variety of trout that is not found anywhere else in the world; Ohridska Pastramka (Salmo lethnica). It is cooked in many of the city’s restaurants and is a specialty. The city is also known for its nightlife in the summer, especially for young people. Many of the world’s most famous DJs have been there and some come back every year, for example David Guetta, Roger Sanchez, Axwell, Bob Sinclair etc. In Ohrid, a festival (Ohridsko Leto) is also organized every summer with many cultural events. Folk dancers from all over Europe usually come here, famous symphony orchestras and among others Jose Carrera have been guests during this festival.
